March 20th, 2011-The NEW RUN is 4 out Of 4 Weeks.
Waist high or better at least once a week. The Surf on Sunday 3-13-2011
was easily waist high and better.

So let me get this straight. Last Saturday March 12, 2011 while I was out surfing the
Wall, and it was a legitimate 4-6' (by normal surfer standards) , and I was caught inside and floundering around in that thunderous inside section, and a few times, I actually sucked in some water, there were millions of Bacteria Laden disks floating in the
water? What the hell...? Are you kidding me? I could of been swallowing that crap?
At my homebreak? And it came from where? Hooksett? Traveling along the
Merrimack River and then depositing onto our beaches?

If this mini disaster had happened in the dead of Summer there would of been an uproar. Instead only a handful of surfers and beach goers and the local Surfrider Foundation took note. And me...the guy who's been going into the water every day
since July 26, 2010. Today marks my 238th Day. That's a lot of time spent in this ocean.

But seriously? The Hooksett Waste Water Facility unknowingly dumped millions of
these Bacteria laden disks in the Merrimack River and they ended up on our beaches? WTF??? They have closed some of the beaches already. Seabrook and Salisbury. But
I personally saw some of those disks at 10th street. I had just come out of the water.
When a friend Rick Evans pointed them out. Look, the last thing any of us need is to
get sick from something as absurd as that. Damn.

This is like a freaking SIMPSONS episode. If I start seeing 3 headed Stripers before my final day of Catching a Wave For Molly is up, I am really going to be pissed. I'm having Agent Orange flashbacks here people. In fact, I'm all for finding out which bonehead or boneheads at that waste water treatment facility let this happen, and then force feeding them a special bacteria laden disk sandwich. Is that too harsh? Maybe a little. How about we fill up a Ritz cracker box and drop a few of the disks into it and give it to
them for a snack? Yes? No?

Look I'm kidding...sort of. I'm pissed. And if I come down with something? I'm really gonna be upset with Hooksett. Millions of Bacteria disks on our beaches people! That's bullshit! That's worth getting upset over. So what can you do? Plenty. Read on...

This might be a good time to let all of you who are not members of the SURFRIDER FOUNDATION (myself included -I let my membership expire) to join forces with this
group of warriors. And make no mistake about it. The Surf Rider Foundation are Warriors. They are fighting the war against the trash and disgusting things that line
our beaches and they do it year round. They are fighting YOUR fight.

There's been an ad for the NH Surf Rider Foundation on my column for a few years
now. I am going to suggest that you sign up. Just your dues membership dollars alone will help these warriors fight the shit that is on our beaches.

I'm signing back up. I'm asking you to do the same.

I could not make this weekend's Emergency Beach Clean-Up due to a service that I was conducting for a local WWII Veteran. Ansell Palmer from Hampton was a good friend and fellow veteran. His sister Rita also from Hampton was a nurse in WWII and was captured by the Japanese in the Philippines. Her story was made into a movie. If you ever find the time Google Rita Palmer and read about her harrowing ordeal at the
hands of the Imperial Japanese Army. She passed away in 2002.

I would of been there Saturday if not for Ansell.

But make no mistake about it. What I'm doing everyday, the Surfing for 365 consecutive days? Well rare is the day that I don't stop to pick up trash on the beach. So I am doing my part. But you can help by just joining the Surfrider Foundation and helping the local Surf Shops help keep our beaches clean. Do it. Don't just bitch about it. Do something.

Millions of Waster Water Treatment Bacteria laden disks on our beaches.

So today is the first day of Spring. As nice as that is for us, there are other parts of this world that are still suffering unimaginable horrors. From the Earthquake and Tsunami
in Japan, to the NEW War in Libya. Oh and let us not forget the potential Meltdown of the Nukes in Japan. The world is not that safe kids. I mean who knows where any of
this is going? Not me. Not you. I'm really not that concerned about the Nukes. I mean,
I'm not buying into the hysteria about the radiation clouds headed this way.

I've listened to experts and read about that possibility by those who are way more
qualified than the constant talking heads on the news. There is little chance of
Radiation hitting the west coast, or Hawaii for that matter. So lighten up about that.
The real threat is for those living within that 30 to 40 mile radius. They should be freaking. And those who lost everything in the quake and tsunami. That shit is heartbreaking to see.

Seeing another Japanese family searching for loved ones is hard to watch.

And of course there are always new videos and flip phone videos coming out.
YouTube is exploding with this stuff. Some of it is interesting some of it is not. I will
say this though. Watching a live feed from the Nuke plants yesterday I couldn't help
but notice (oh no here I go again) a wave peeling off in front of the plant.

Last week I admitted that I thought some of those tsunami waves could of been surfable.
Yesterday I saw a wave that clearly was ridable. I also said that there are millions
of Japanese surfers. And like all surfers, some of them will find a way to surf that break. Not now mind you, but in the past. I'm almost certain that NUKES was surfed by some brave Japanese souls.

There are plenty of surfers who surf near NUKES. All of us here in New Hampshire surf near a NUKE. Hell, I surfed in front of ours back a couple of months ago. I call it NUKES. It was not the first time either. I did it 10 years ago when I surfed 365 days the first time.
I only surf there when the wind is blowing too hard out of the Northwest and there are virtually no waves to ride. In front of NUKES there is a lake like chop, that produces a small ridable wave. My point is, are we safe from the potential meltdown?

Can an earthquake happen here? I felt a tremor last year. I was sitting in my living room watching TV, with my cat and dog. And I felt the slight tremor. My dog and cat did too. I remember looking at them and saying "Whoa did you guys feel that?" My wife recalled
it as well. My friends in California feel tremors all the time. They live with it everyday.
In fact, there are tremors every single day somewhere on this planet. Every single day.

So could our NUKE Plant in Seabrook, New Hampshire suddenly unravel if a quake
and subsequent tsunami happened? Yes. But the likelihood of that happening? Not very likely. But the threat is there. As unlikely as it is. Put it this way, I'm more concerned about those disks on the beach than I am the NUKE in Seabrook.

Those who live on active faults better have a plan. The rest of us? Get on with your day.

Welcome Spring...it's been a long, cold, snowy winter.

Now for some of my Weekly Global Observances:
As I write this column, the Wacky Quacky leader of Libya, K-Daffy Duck is getting his
ass kicked by the UN Coalition. There's a Tom-a-hawk party going down as I write this. All of K-Daffy's air defense systems are being eliminated one by one. Ole Qaddafi Duck
is still intent though killing his own people in Libya. The Rebels are holed up at the Alamo. Some are saying this is too little too late. Look, I'm not a fan of OB but I
certainly support the office of the Presidency. I will not turn my back on my country
and especially during these turbulent times. I am supporting the President and the
UN for FINALLY stepping up and doing something in Libya.

Of course I do NOT want to see any civilian casualties. And I certainly don't want to see any Coalition casualties. But K-Daffy is , to quote the real Daffy Duck, "despicable"
and should be taken down. I have not forgotten what happened to Pan Am Flight 103.
And If I have not forgotten, imagine what the families of the US citizens who died on
that plane must feel. Especially knowing now, that Momar Qadaffi was involved. He's a terrorist. And if I'm not mistaken we are at war with Terrorism. There are many here among us who call it what it is. The GLOBAL WAR ON TERRORISM. Get used to it.

This is the REAL reality of our times.

Americans are FINALLY realizing this. That it makes NO DIFFERENCE who is sitting in
the whitehouse. Clinton, Bush, or Obama. The threat is real. TERRORISM is Real. We
are fighting a war against it. EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Libya is just another battle in this long war.

OK there's no new sound bites on WINNING Charlie Sheen. Damn you Tsunami and Libya. There is however a new Celebrity meltdown. Ladies and gentlemen, give it up
for this week's Celeb Loser. Gilbert "Aflack" Godfrey. Poor Gilbert opened his trap one time too many and twitted a series of tasteless jokes on the Tsunami and earthquake in Japan. The voice of the Aflack Duck was shitcanned after his crude remarks. Even the King of All Media Howard Stern thought Gilbert stepped over the edge on this one. I mean, Good Lord, if Howard thinks he went too far, he really did go too far.

Once again we see a celebrity piss away millions of dollars. And some are feeling bad for him. Look, give me a million dollars to quack like a freaking duck and I PROMISE I will keep my mouth shut. I promise.

Still, like you, I can't wait until the next absurd news comes out of "Unreality World."

Yesterday 1983 "OK it's my turn...you take the camera..."
(Below) Back in the old days. We used to take turns taking photos and movie film.
Of course as time moved on that became less and less of a deal . Mostly because my friends couldn't take a photo to save their lives. Not all of them. Just most of them.
Unless of course it was a ploy for me to take all the photos and movies? What the...? DOH! This was one of those times when I got to surf and my friend took the photo.

RUN REDUX with Ralph playing a double tracked solo version of "Watchtower" from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

OK so I bought this little device called a Zoom and I recorded myself live playing my strat and singing. Then I went back and recorded over it and laid down another guitar track and vocal track...and well, came up with this sort of Reggae Funky version of a song that I've always loved. All Along The Watchtower.

The video and soundtrack are from my last movie the RUN REDUX that is available in the shops and on the surffreeordie.com site.

Hope you dig this new version of a song that has been covered by thousands of artists.
